ADY and Iranian Railways Expand Cooperation to Realize the Potential of the North-South Corridor: New Agreement Signed

As part of the latest meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Joint Commission held in Tehran, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), met with Jabbar Ali Zakery Sardroodi, head of Iranian Railways.
The railway leaders discussed the expansion of operations at the freight terminal in Iran’s Astara and the ongoing developments at the terminal.
It was noted that the Astara terminals located in both Azerbaijan and Iran play a crucial role in ensuring faster and more efficient freight handling along the North-South Corridor. These terminals contribute to realizing the strategic potential of the corridor, strengthening the transportation infrastructure of both countries, and promoting regional trade development.
During the meeting, ADY and Iranian Railways signed a "Strategic Cooperation Plan for the Construction and Operation of the Astara Terminal."
The agreement is based on the railway section of the protocol of the 16th Intergovernmental Joint Commission signed between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 22, 2025. It includes the approval of the Master Plan for the Astara Terminal, completion of construction work by the end of this year, recognition of final investments, and other related issues.
