ADY has completed the majority of the construction work on the Astara Terminal

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) has carried out substantial work on the construction of the Astara Terminal (located in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran), which is one of the key elements in the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor.

85% of the terminal’s design work, as well as 72.4% of the construction and installation works have been completed. An 8.3 km railway line has been laid from the Astara station to the border with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and a railway bridge has been built over the Astarachay River. Within the framework of the project, the construction of seven bridges is planned. The construction of one of these bridges has been fully completed, while 90% of the work on the others has been finished.

In 2023, more than 692,000 tons of cargo were transshipped through the Astara Terminal, and in 2024, this figure exceeded 777,000 tons. Once the terminal’s construction is fully completed, its annual cargo handling capacity is expected to reach 3.5 million tons.

The Astara Terminal will facilitate an increase in cargo transportation volume and ensure the efficient execution of operations along the North-South International Transport Corridor.

It should be noted that, based on an agreement reached between the governments of Azerbaijan and Iran, construction of the Astara Terminal began in 2017.

The terminal is located in the Iranian city of Astara, 1.4 km from the Azerbaijan–Iran border. The area of the terminal, which is being constructed by ADY, has been leased to Azerbaijan by the Iranian government for a period of 25 years.
