ADY launches pioneering high-speed passenger train service on Baku–Gazakh–Baku route

In order to ensure passenger satisfaction, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) will extend the route of high-speed trains operating in the Baku–Aghstafa–Baku direction to Gazakh station starting from June 15.

Ticket sales started on June 5. For the first time, modern single-decker trains manufactured by Stadler Rail Group will operate on the Baku–Gazakh–Baku route.

While passengers used to reach Gazakh from Baku in 8 hours and 25 minutes with the train that operated until December 2019, this distance will now be covered in just 5 hours and 36 minutes. Regarding the schedule, high-speed passenger trains depart from Baku to Gazakh daily at 08:00 and 18:00, arriving at their destination at 13:36 and 23:36, respectively. In the Gazakh–Baku direction, trains depart daily at 08:00 and 16:20, arriving at Baku Railway Station at 13:29 and 21:49, respectively.

A dynamic pricing policy will be applied on the route, and the minimum fare for a one-way standard class ticket from Baku to Gazakh will be 16.20 AZN.
Tickets can be purchased at railway ticket offices, through the “ADY Mobile” app, or on ADY’s official website: https://ticket.ady.az.

To ensure the safe and uninterrupted operation of trains on the Baku–Gazakh–Baku route, Azerbaijan Railways has carried out major repair and reconstruction work on the Aghstafa–Gazakh section of the railway. Specifically, design work for power supply and signaling-communication systems has been completed along the Baku–Gazakh railway line. Additionally, renovation work has been carried out at the Gazakh station building, including the refurbishment of the waiting hall.

The launch of the Baku–Gazakh–Baku route is expected to lead to a significant increase in passenger transportation. According to preliminary estimates, nearly 10,000 additional passengers are expected to be transported annually on this route.

The extension of the Baku–Aghstafa route to Gazakh will meet the transportation needs of travelers on this route and residents of the region. As a result, the population of the Gazakh district will also benefit from a more comfortable, safe, and affordable travel option.

Aiming to make all regions of Azerbaijan accessible to passengers and to expand its service coverage, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is implementing modern approaches to continuously enhance its passenger transportation services.

It is also gradually restoring routes that existed before the pandemic. Notable developments include the extension of the Baku–Ganja–Baku route to Aghstafa in 2023, the launch of high-speed train service to Gabala for the first time, the introduction of new trains in 2024, the increase in trips on the Baku–Aghstafa–Baku route, the addition of stops at Laki and Ujar stations, the activation of free Wi-Fi service on several inter-district trains and stations, the implementation of a loyalty program and dynamic pricing policy, and the restoration of passenger service on the Baku–Balaken–Baku route at the beginning of 2025. As a result of these efforts, a record 8.5 million passengers were transported in 2024, highlighting ADY's strong focus on developing passenger transportation and enhancing customer satisfaction.
