ADY optimized train schedules on the Absheron Circular Railway Line

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) has optimized the train schedules on the Absheron circular railway line starting from April 1st, in order to partially regulate passenger congestion.

On this route, a total of 61 additional trips have been added on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The number of weekday or workweek trips has increased from 66 to 92, with train intervals, especially during midday hours, being reduced.

For the first time, three separate schedules have been created for weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. On weekdays, the number of trips on the Baku–Khirdalan–Sumgayit–Baku route has increased from 24 to 36, and on the Baku–Pirshaghi–Sumgayit–Baku route from 42 to 56.

In response to numerous passenger requests, a new trip has been added at 20:20 on the Baku–Khirdalan–Sumgayit route (the previous schedule had the last train at 19:35). This provides more options for passengers returning home from work.

Additionally, morning trains on the Baku–Khirdalan–Sumgayit route have also been optimized. Until now, the train departing Sumgayit at 07:20 arrived in Baku at 08:01. Under the new schedule, the train departing at 06:15 will arrive in Baku at 06:56. Furthermore, a new FLIRT train operating directly from Khirdalan to Baku will arrive in Baku at 07:15, offering additional options for those whose workday starts at 8 AM. The express train operating in the morning hours will now stop at Bilajari and Khirdalan stations.

On Saturdays, the number of trips on the Baku–Khirdalan–Sumgayit–Baku route has increased from 10 to 16, and on the Baku–Pirshaghi–Sumgayit–Baku route from 20 to 36. A special schedule has been prepared for Sundays as well. According to the new timetable, on Sundays, the number of trips on the Baku–Khirdalan–Sumgayit–Baku route has increased from 10 to 15, and on the Baku–Pirshaghi–Sumgayit–Baku route from 20 to 28.

For the first time, a single-decker FLIRT train has been introduced on the suburban Baku–Khirdalan–Baku route. In connection with this, a new 550 mm platform has been built at Bilajari station, and part of the existing 1100 mm platform on the Sumgayit route has been lowered to the 550 mm level. At Khirdalan station, the existing platform has been adjusted to the 550 mm standard.

Several updates have also been implemented at the stations. A new ticket counter and turnstile hall have been built at Bilajari station, the turnstile hall has been expanded at Khirdalan station, and the number of turnstiles at Mammadli station has been increased from 4 to 10. The optimization of new trips aims to ensure that passengers reach their destinations comfortably and on time, especially during peak hours. All these changes will allow the daily number of passengers on the Absheron circular railway route to increase from the current 37-38 thousand to 48-50 thousand.

ADY, a reliable carrier in passenger transportation, continuously strengthens railway infrastructure and places high importance on the safety of operations. The optimization of new trips aims to ensure passengers reach their destinations comfortably and on time, particularly during peak hours.

Since April of last year, ADY has been carrying out repair work in the Sumgayit–Pirshaghi area as part of efforts to maintain the health of the infrastructure and ensure the continuous safety of operations on the Absheron circular railway line. Ongoing reconstruction and repair work in service areas is aimed at providing passengers with safe and comfortable travel to their destinations.
