The Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex has been inaugurated: Another contribution to the Great Return

On May 10, on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's birth, the opening ceremony of the Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex was held with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

The Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex was built as part of the second phase of the Barda–Aghdam railway line project. Covering an area of nearly 8 hectares, this infrastructure facility includes all necessary rooms, as well as waiting halls, ticket offices, a library, shops, entertainment zones, restaurants, and recreational areas.

Convenient access has been provided for passengers to both the train platform and the bus stops.

Service buildings for various types of transport and a passenger platform have been constructed on the complex’s premises. Azerbaijan’s first covered railway platform has been built at the Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex, with a length of 350 meters. The area also features above-ground parking lots for private, mid-sized, and large-capacity vehicles, platforms for intercity and regional bus routes; bicycle parking, a park, and electric charging stations for electric vehicles.

The railway station within the Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex will be capable of serving 800 to 1,000 passengers daily. The bus terminal will serve 1,300 to 1,500 passengers daily. The complex will operate as an integrated transportation hub.

As part of the opening ceremony, the first symbolic passenger train departed on the Barda–Aghdam railway line.

It should be noted that the foundation of the strategically important infrastructure project — the Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex — was laid on October 4, 2022, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex will enhance the accessibility of public transport in the Karabakh Economic Region, contribute to the socio-economic revival of the Aghdam district, expand Azerbaijan’s transport capacity, and make a significant contribution to the broader Great Return initiative.

Overall, the Barda–Aghdam and Horadiz–Aghband railway projects being implemented in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions will have positive economic impacts on the territories liberated from occupation. These new railway lines will facilitate faster and more cost-effective transport of both passengers and industrial/agricultural goods, significantly boosting the region’s logistical potential.

Located at the intersection of the East-West and North-South transport corridors, our country is becoming an increasingly strategic hub for freight accumulation, sorting, and distribution. Infrastructure facilities like the Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex, along with logistics centers, will stimulate the growth of local production and support the development of international trade. This complex is set to become a major transportation interchange hub for the Karabakh region.
