Trans-Caspian International Transport Route Reshaping Regional Transport Connectivity: New Agreements in Baku

On March 4, the General Assembly of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route International Association (TITR IA) Legal Entities Union convened in Baku, bringing together delegations from 10 countries, including railway administration heads from member states and senior officials from transport and logistics companies.
During the meeting, participants highlighted the growing significance of the TITR, dubbed the Middle Corridor, as a key regional transport artery, discussing ongoing collaborative efforts to improve cargo management through sophisticated analytical systems and real-time cargo tracking services. Additionally, the introduction of the "Digital Trade Corridor" multimodal platform and "Fast Customs" system, developed by Singapore’s Global DTC, was acknowledged as a major step in enhancing transparency and control mechanisms in cargo operations.
A key emphasis was put on the expansion of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway’s freight capacity, which has increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons annually, harbingering the resumption of cargo transportation.
Event participants elaborated that ensuring cargo security, establishing unified tariff agreements, and accelerating freight movement are crucial for optimizing the transportation system and addressing the needs of all stakeholders. These efforts are deemed important for the long-term success of the Middle Corridor countries.
Following the discussions, the 2025 tariff rates proposed by the TITR IA Legal Entities Union’s Working Group were reviewed. Subsequently, the 2025 cargo transportation and implementation plan via the Middle Corridor was approved, and a decision was made to launch a TITR IA representative office in Xi’an, China.
The meeting wrapped up with the signing of agreements on the "Organization of Feeder Connectivity Between Caspian Sea Ports" and "Ensuring the Loading of Feeder Ships".
Later, participants exchanged insights on improving maritime cargo transport efficiency and explored relevant potential initiatives at the "Middle Corridor via the Caspian Sea" forum.
